IC contact post/Appointments

(Feel free to use this post to have your character ICly contact Konan about things. This can be done through journals, or through her origami. If she's given your character origami before and they've either guessed or been told that she can use it as an extension of her senses, they can use it.

I'd be happy to try your ideas. It's a chance to try a simulation I wouldn't have thought of for myself.

All right.

[Konan nods and begins to program a training scenario. She doesn't know exactly what Mercury is capable of with a sword or if she possesses any superhuman abilities at all, so she'll stick to practice enemies that are skilled, but not using any special techniques with chakra.

The opponents are all ninja and will require both skill and a strategic mind to defeat.]

[Mercury has a strategic mind. In fact, she'd never been the strong one of the team so much as the smart one, leading enemies astray or sneaking right through them with the right clever moves.

Of course, when dealing with sailor senshi, strong is relative. She doesn't know exactly what her simulated foes are capable of, so she freely uses her powers. After maneuvering some of the ninja into a better position with quick movements, she unleashes her attack.]

Mercury Aqua Cyclone!

[Her tiara and the bracer on her wrist gleam, and a storm of water and ice comes from nowhere to sting and harass her foes.]

[Konan can't tell whether the attack is magical in nature or something else, but she is familiar enough with elemental techniques that she doesn't get distracted in battle when she spots Mercury's attack.

Her expression is unreadable. Her face might as well have been carved from stone for all the emotion it reveals at the moment. The simulated enemies are treated to a barrage of shuriken made from paper but hardened and sharpened with Konan's chakra - it almost looks ridiculous, until they're capable of cutting through steel weapons.]

[In contrast to that flat concentration, Mercury seems to be enjoying herself - as if a good, honest battle is as stimulating as any other good exercise. Maybe she still has some aggression about Luceti to get out, even after this long, or maybe it's all about Usagi (leaving).

Or maybe it's just how she's always been, in this form that lets her let herself go, so much more than she does at other times. Besides, her foes are simulated opponents; there's no harm done at all in fighting them at her best.

She notes the strength of what seemed like paper, and though she doesn't have time to stare, there's a definitely audible word as she spins and turns among her foes, striking out when she has an opening for fist or elbow or leg. She has a word for Konan's talent:]

[Konan smiles slightly. There's something to be said for just letting oneself attack freely. Mercury is a reasonably skilled combatant, she notes, although she seems to be strategically inclined as Konan is.

This is a good opportunity for Konan to work on her hand to hand combat skills. It's not at all her forte, but she is still a ninja and she isn't entirely unskilled. She focuses on efficient strikes - hits that are designed to do as much damage as possible with as minimal force as needed. Precision has always been a strength, and though she usually employs it in distance attacks, she is quite familiar with vital points. Her simulated foes are struck in places like the kidneys, the spine, and the throat when they get up close.]

[There's not much chance for conversation, but she likes it that way. She still keeps an eye on Konan; she's used to looking out for a team. If an enemy manages to creep too close, she's ready to call them off with a quick attack of her own, or to work her way closer.]

[Konan can't help but notice Mercury's natural affinity for working with others. There's no grandstanding or taking on everything herself here. She's adapting well to the scenario, and she's prepared to offer backup if needed.

Konan in turn is fighting mindful of the whole picture as she fights. She's picking up on the attack patterns and disrupting them with the paper shuriken at her command.]

[It's simple, on one level: They may not know each other well yet, but right now these fabricated opponents are after both of them. They have a stronger chance if they work together for the fight.

On another level, it's a way to say she's willing to get along, and hopes they will. When she finds a brief lull in the battle, a pause to catch her breath, she can't help still being impressed at Konan's focus and skill.]

You must have trained very hard to become so strong.

I have been training since I was seven years old.

[Back then, it had been entirely for self defense. As she became a more capable ninja, it was to fight for peace and for her nation's prosperity.]

Was that magic that you were using earlier?

[Peace and prosperity were noble goals; but even they had been used as excuses for war, in Mercury's world. But for now, they're both simply discussing these abilities.]

It was. My powers are water-based, like you saw. I used them to defend our planet in my world.

Mine use chakra - energy that comes from within. It forms from developing the mind and body. Some people naturally have a higher amount of chakra than others, but it always grows with age and life experience. It can deteriorate when one's health does, though.

[Largely because the body's first priority was to devote that natural energy to physical health.]

Mine come from planet Mercury. I take my name from there.

[As if the powers and the person are all wrapped up into one and the same thing. In a way, it's very true. In another way, she'd be distressed to ever think of it that way and would want to insist there was more to her than only that.]

So you draw power from the planet, then? Summoning cosmic energy? Or something else entirely?

[She almost wonders if it's like nature chakra - a third source that was external rather than internal, but perilous to fail to control properly.]

[Their powers were something innate in them but drawn from their planets. In a way, it was one and the same. Mercury nodded.]

I call on my planet when I- [She stops, as though to think of how to explain] when I use my attacks, in battle I mean.

Are there non-combative aspects of your powers?

[She's vaguely curious. She can see how useful those abilities are from seeing Mercury in action, but it's always interesting to see what people think of to develop their abilities outside of direct combat.]

There are. After all, water is useful for many things.

[And not only can she find it when it's needed, she can conjure it up herself out of nowhere. She can provide it for crops. She can purify a damaged supply...]
